ALERT: FREEZING TEMPERATURE
What you need to know:
Septic Sprinkler heads will often freeze at below-freezing temperatures. If heads freeze, they will not function, and aerobic tanks can easily overfill. Please see the following recommendations:
If you have no alarm on:
If you have no alarm on:
- Limit your water usage as much as possible.
- Flush toilets, take quick showers, and do not run washing machines or dishwashers until temperatures rise above freezing.
If you have a high-water alarm sounding off:
**IF YOUR TANK IS FULL IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU RUN NO MORE WATER THAN ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. SEPTIC EFFLUENT CAN BACKUP INTO YOUR HOME IF TOO MUCH WATER IS RAN INTO TANK. LIMIT YOUR USAGE TO FLUSHING ONLY SOLID WASTE.**
- Go out to your aerobic control panel and shut off the alarm and water pump breakers. You can leave the Aerator running. If heads are frozen your water pump can burn up due to back pressure from the frozen sprinklers.
- It may be possible to thaw out heads by pouring hot water on them; if you try doing this shut-off breaker first. Pour water over heads then turn breakers back on; if heads still do not spray turn breaker back off.
- Limit your water usage to flushing toilets until temperatures rise above freezing and the heads thaw out.
- Once temperatures are above freezing, for six to eight hours, turn your breakers back on and the heads should start working. Once heads are spraying mute your alarm and the system should pump down to normal levels and the system will correct itself.
- If the system does not come back on, after temperatures have risen, please give us a call and we can send a technician out to see if any repairs are needed.
